Oysters for Valentine’s Day
Pacific
Seafood Chef Offers Insight into the Mollusk’s Aphrodisiac
Qualities
and Popularity
Portland
,
Ore.
– Feb.7, 2008 –
With its aphrodisiac reputation, it’s no wonder oyster consumption
spikes in the
U.S.
during the days leading up to Valentine’s Day! Even
Casanova himself was an alleged fan of the bivalve mollusks.
Pacific Seafood, a family owned seafood
company based in the Western United States, processes and distributes
a wide variety of oysters, including its popular “Sea Rock”
variety, throughout the country and internationally.
Today, oysters are more popular than ever and Pacific Seafood
has expanded over the years to meet the growing demand.
The company’s strict quality control combined with dedicated
shellfish handling areas, assure optimal conditions from harvest to
end user.
The Romans first cultivated oysters over
2,000 years ago (King Henry IV was said to eat 400 oysters before
dinner). For centuries
oysters have been linked to the topic of libido.
“Studies have shown that oysters are rich
in rare amino acids that trigger increased levels of sex hormones,
which may offer insight into why oysters on the half shell are a
particularly popular item for Valentine’s dinners,” said Pacific
Seafood chef Gary Puetz. “An oyster appetizer served with white
wine, is not only the start of a wonderful meal, but the precursor to
an interesting evening.”
